Selling 500,000 album copies has become a rare feat in the Korean music industry especially now that the industry is in a slump. In 2000, artists like Kim Gun Mo, Shin Seung Hun or Jo Sung Mo sold millions of copies. However, in the past 3 years, only SG Wanna Be was able to sell 90,000 albums while TVXQ came in second with 80,000. Kim Jong Kook ranked third with 30,000 albums sold. Moreover, CD companies have drastically decreased, reflecting the miserable state of the industry. If in 2000 there were 25 CD companies, in 2002, it became 15 and in 2005, only 5 remained.
